NRCSD Mission Statement:
Inspiring Students to Live, Learn & Lead
The goals of the James A. Farley Elementary School, in partnership with the surrounding community, is to build our students’ sense of belonging, engagement and achievement, while facilitating their transformation into literate, critical thinkers who are respectful and responsible young adults.
2014 NYS Exams (English Language Arts)
We would like to remind you that over the course of the 4/1 - 4/3 period your child will be taking the English Language Arts state assessment. The tests will take place in the morning hours and will be 70 minutes long for 4th grade, and 90 minutes long for 5th and 6th grades.
Some students become anxious when taking standardized exams. While it is important to acknowledge the value of a test, it is equally important to remind children that a test is simply one measure of performance. The more relaxed and prepared a student is about an exam, the more likely they are to perform at their best and to demonstrate their best learning.
Here are some pointers with regards to state assessments:
Rotary Club Comes Up Big!
- Encourage your child to do his/her best
- Remind him/her to maintain a positive attitude.
- Get a good night's rest
- Have a proper breakfast on the morning of every test
- Familiarize your child with the testing calendar so that he/she has a sense of control and predictability.
Thank you very much for your cooperation with the NYS State Testing Program.
